Town of New Hartford to sell municipal water and wastewater systems to Aquarion
BRIDGEPORT, CONN. – February 10, 2022 – Aquarion Water Company today announced that the company has signed an Asset Purchase Agreement (APA) with the Town of New Hartford, Connecticut, facilitating Aquarion’s acquisition of the town’s municipal water and wastewater systems. The sale of the systems to Aquarion was approved by New Hartford voters in 2021. Aquarion’s acquisition of the systems are subject to the approval of Connecticut’s Public Utilities Regulatory Authority, Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, and Department of Public Health.
“We have had the privilege of operating New Hartford's wastewater system since 2016 and are proud of our track record of serving the community,” Aquarion President Donald Morrissey said. “Through this acquisition, we will leverage our considerable experience to ensure New Hartford residents are able to count on their water and wastewater systems for decades to come.”
“Aquarion has a well-deserved reputation of providing safe, quality water and industry-leading customer service at affordable rates,” said New Hartford’s First Selectman Dan Jerram. “Aquarion’s purchase of these systems will ensure New Hartford’s drinking water and wastewater treatment needs are met, while also providing funding to begin extending sewer lines to more residents to protect our drinking water wells and aquifer."
Following the signing of the APA, Aquarion will file an application with state regulators for their approval.
Since 2011, Aquarion has purchased and integrated 84 water systems into its portfolio, including four municipal systems, strengthening the company’s ability to deliver high-quality water to communities throughout its service area.
