Aquarion Water Company Prepared to Meet National PFAS Drinking Water Standard
BRIDGEPORT, CONN. – April 10, 2024 – Today, the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued its final PFAS rule. Aquarion
Water Company has been preparing for this new, science-based standard and is
focused on mitigating PFAS in its water systems within the compliance period.
Aquarion has been evaluating its 86 drinking water systems
since 2019 and is prioritizing systems where higher levels of PFAS has been
detected. These projects are already under construction or in the final design
phase. Aquarion also completed a Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) treatment
system to meet New Hampshire PFAS standards in its Hampton, NH drinking water
system.
“Aquarion’s planning efforts have allowed our engineering team
to proactively design appropriate PFAS solutions for our water systems. We have
shovels in the ground on several projects and are focused on promptly completing
them,” said Donald Morrissey, President of Aquarion Water Company.
To keep customer water rates affordable, Aquarion is seeking federal and state funding and is pursuing settlements with the companies that manufacture these chemicals. Aquarion will continue advocating for additional funding opportunities to reduce the impact on its customers.
