We are continuously working to maintain and improve the water system. Some of the major projects we are currently working on involve the installation of new, or the replacement of existing, equipment and facilities needed to provide safe, reliable water service.
Construction will begin soon at Aquarion’s North Main Street Wellfield in Oxford to construct a new manganese removal facility. This project will reduce manganese levels in the Oxford distribution system. The raw water from the wells at the North Main Street Wellfield (Wells 1, 1A, and 2) have elevated levels of manganese above the MassDEP Office of Research and Standards Guidelines (ORSG) of 0.3 mg/L.
This project consists of construction of a new 1.3 MGD manganese treatment facility. The proposed 575 square foot treatment building will contain three greensand filter units for removal of manganese.
This project is being supported through a loan from the MassDEP SRF program administered by the Massachusetts Cleanwater Trust (the Trust). Principal forgiveness on the loan is anticipated to be 19.8%.
The contractor for the project is R.H. White Construction Company and typical work hours will be weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The project is expected to be complete by the end of 2025. There will likely be a moderate increase in truck traffic near the project site for construction vehicles and deliveries.
