Route 20 Water Main Relocation and Replacement

Sep 19, 2024 Massachusetts

MassDOT is currently reconstructing Route 20 in Charlton and Oxford to improve safety and traffic flow.  The reconstruction includes bridge replacement, drainage replacement, road widening, and the addition of sidewalks. As a result of this work, Aquarion is required to relocate a portion of our water main infrastructure within the limits of the project to avoid conflicts with MassDOT’s planned work. In addition to the required water main relocations, Aquarion is replacing approximately 960 linear feet of additional water main within the limits of the project due to observed water main breaks in this section of main.  Coordinating the water main replacement with MassDOT’s work results in cost savings and avoids impacting DOT’s new roadway in the future.  Replacement of the water main will be done with a mix of day work and night work.  Short duration shutdowns of water service will be required in order to complete the work. Customers will be notified of planned shutdowns that will impact their service. It is anticipated that all water main work within this area of Route 20 will be completed by the end of 2024.
