New Hampshire Irrigation Schedule

Mandatory, Twice-Weekly Irrigation Schedule In Effect

This schedule applies to all Hampton, North Hampton, Rye and Stratham customers. It helps to ensure a sustainable drinking water supply, protect natural resources and streamflow for aquatic life, and respond to the region’s moderate to severe drought conditions.

Watering of plants and gardens is permitted at any time when using drip irrigation, a hand-held hose, or a watering can.

Best practices for lawn watering

  • Optimum time to run sprinklers is between sunrise and 9 a.m., and one inch of water per week is sufficient to keep grass green.
  • Please avoid wasting water by sprinkling impermeable surfaces such as sidewalks and driveways.
  • No watering is necessary if it has rained within the last 48 hours. Pay attention the weather forecast and postpone watering if rain is forecast within the next 24 hours.
  • Hand watering is strongly encouraged for gardens, flowers and other ornamentals because it is a much more efficient use of water.

For customers in Hampton (excluding Sun Valley Neighborhood), North Hampton, Rye, and Stratham. The irrigation schedule is in effect through October 31.

Sun Valley Neighborhood, Hampton

Effective immediately, outside water uses are prohibited for all Aquarion Water Company customers in the Sun Valley neighborhood south of the Hampton River (Campton St, Ocean Dr, Portsmouth Ave, Plymouth St, Thornton St and Woodstock St).

This neighborhood is currently supplied from the Seabrook Water Department while the new bridge is being constructed. The location of the bridge work required removal of water mains under the river that fed the Sun Valley neighborhood.  A new water main will be installed on the new bridge but is not in service yet.  The supply of water from Seabrook saves considerable cost compared to other alternatives.

Seabrook is experiencing reduced supply due to the Severe Drought that has now persisted for over two years (see Drought Monitor Map).

Seabrook’s ordinance prohibits outside water uses by all customers.  Details can be viewed at this Seabrook, NH link.
